"Working for Achiever Tutoring has been a breath of fresh air. We are prepared, understood and genuinely cared about. The children are listened to, and we are able to follow our professional initiative. I know who my kids will be being tutored by in the future!" - Tutor.

In addition to pairing you intentionally with a known and trusted tutor who we think will be a good fit for the young person; we, as a leadership team, are also committed to seeing your young person succeed. The tutor teaches, but the senior leadership team work hard behind the scenes to ensure we are plotting your child's progress, and ensuring the tutor is fully supported. Very happy with the tutoring with Jonny for our daughter. He is very patient and has really helped her improve and prepare for up coming tests.

We’ve had such a positive experience with Jonny at Achiever Tutoring. Jonny is everything you could hope for in a tutor – caring, kind, considerate, knowledgeable, and always eager to help. He’s approachable and flexible, which makes it so easy for my son to feel comfortable and supported in his learning.

Meet our Senior Leadership team

Jonny Heaver

Founder and Director, Consultant and Tutor of English, Business and Economics, Drama, KS2 Studies and Entrance Examinations
Since graduating with a first-class honours degree in English with Placement from the University of Liverpool, I have been focused on elevating and evolving Achiever Tutoring, whilst saying true to its strengths. This has involved appearing in series 19 of BBC’s ‘The Apprentice’, growing my incredible team, delivering talks across the country and, of course, refining my craft as a tutor with my students. In my free time, I love travelling, socialising and being on the beach with my dog Buster! My tutoring approach follows the basic principle: if a student enjoys learning, they will learn. I therefore aim for my sessions to ignite a passion for the subject before refining skills and pushing for success.

Hannah Palliser

Deputy Director, Bursar and Tutor of History, Politics, Religion and Philosophy and KS3 English
Since graduating with a 2:1 honours degree in History and Philosophy from University of Liverpool, I have progressed within Achiever to become its Deputy Director and Bursar. In my free time, I love to read, run, socialise, and travel, getting the most out of my schedule! When tutoring, I approach my sessions with passion for whichever topic I am tutoring. I enjoy hearing my students' perspectives and learning how they understand a certain topic, giving it a fresh new perspective. Building confidence within my students is the ultimate goal within my sessions, to have them academically flourishing by the end of the year.

Belle Maggs

Assistant Director (STEM & 11+), DSL (Designated Safeguarding Lead) and Tutor of Maths. Science, Primary Studies, 11+ and Early Years.
Since graduating with a first class Master's degree in Mathematics from the University of Kent, I have progressed within the company to become Achiever's Assistant Director and DSL. In my free time, I like to run, go to the gym and read, as well as everything that comes with owning a horse. As one of Achiever's longest serving tutors, I have always taken a relaxed and patient approach to learning which helps create a good healthy relationship between the student and the subject. As DSL, I take everyone's wellbeing and safety as the utmost priority and it is amazing to see everyone flourish under Achiever's tuition and guidance.

Harmony Dawson

Head of Arts and Humanities and Tutor of English, History, KS2 Studies and 11+
I have been with Achiever since the summer of 2023 and in that time I have seen  the confidence of my tutees grow. I have loved being able to build connections with students and my fellow tutors and am excited that I am able to share my passion for English and History as the Arts and Humanities lead. I am currently completing a BA in English and History at Royal Holloway University. I love to explore new places and write about my adventures. My style of tutoring is focussed on questioning and exploration; I encourage my students to vocalise their ideas and processes to look deeper than surface level.
The tutors my daughter has have been fantastic in building confidence and expanding knowledge, the 1 to 1 sessions are a really good way for my daughter as she struggles talking in large groups. Thank you to all her excellent tutors for encouraging her progression.

Meet our Tutors

A fresh perspective is a game changer when it comes to your child’s learning.

What makes Achiever special is our team. All tutors are personally known and trusted by Jonny and the leadership team. Unlike larger agencies, our team genuinely cares about who they are working with. This leads to more accountability, more trust between tutors and ultimately - better sessions. The fact that all of our tutors are young means that they have been in the students' shoes not so long ago. Mark schemes are fresh in tutors' minds, they are up to date with the latest educational developments and it means a one-of-a-kind rapport is created. Young people teaching young people really works. Our results, reviews and testimonials prove it.

We reach out to tutors we want on board and trust our team's recommendations as opposed to accepting ad hoc applications. We like it this way around. It means all tutors are known as well as trusted.

Our tutors create achievers. We get to know our students and use common interests to spark a passion. We start generally to distinguish gaps in knowledge and then zoom into those areas in need of focus.

Tutors will build confidence, build a one-of-a-kind rapport and create an exciting professional relationship inspiring students to learn. A-Level Maths, counting to 10, Shakespeare's soliloquies or learning to read: our tutors have got you. You're in safe hands.

Achievers make mistakes and that's how we learn. We celebrate mistakes and use them to teach.

We also trust our tutors' professional initiatives. We balance sessions in a way that makes time for discussion, questions, fostering a love for the subject and, of course, pushing the student to succeed. It's all about that correct balance.

We realise that every student is different and adapt sessions accordingly. The joy of one-to-one learning means that each session can be tailored to the student. Some students thrive under pressure and some don't. Some will need that nudge in the right direction and others will need reassurance. We adapt and that's what creates achievers.

We help students achieve across the curriculum. Our versatile team of subject specific tutors offer everything from languages to humanities, Spanish to French and early years to sixth form. We create well rounded achievers and make it possible through discounts on multiple subjects.

We strive to offer value for money. One-to-one learning can be expensive which is why we keep costs as low as possible, offer discounts and provide personally written, free of charge session reports keeping you in the loop of your young person's progress. We're a fraction of the price of larger agencies - we put people before profit. It's that simple.

It’s about the right approach

What our parents think

Jonny and his team were invaluable during my child's GCSE revision and exams. After being hit by the pandemic, my daughter felt behind in her lessons and felt overwhelmed at the prospect of catching up for her forthcoming GCSEs. Special mention to Tabby and Belle who gave her back her confidence and love of learning. My daughter became more organised and motivated to work. Jonny is very responsive to queries and flexible in his approach. The team really tailor-make everything to your child's needs. They were supportive and reassuring, not only to my daughter but to me throughout the whole process. If there is one tutoring company to go for, I highly recommend Achiever Tutoring. Thank you so much, Jonny and team.

I'd like to take this opportunity to personally thank Jonny and his team. Especially Ellie who tutored my daughter in maths and science in the lead up to GCSE's. My daughter had missed a lot of school due to personal reasons, and as such fell behind. Initially hesitant to start tutoring, she gave it a go. Well, what can I say, it was the best thing I could have done for her!!! She hit it off with Ellie who made her feel comfortable and at ease. She gave my daughter the confidence to go into those exams with her head held high and believing in herself. My daughter learnt more in those few months than ever before!! I highly recommend.
Not me
My daughter was lucky enough to be paired with Afif from Achiever Tutoring for Maths GCSE preparation. Afif had a great rapport with her from the first session. He was understanding of her needs and helped her to pick apart the most difficult questions to gain higher marks. She grew in confidence as a result of his teaching and although maths is her most tricky subject, she went into exams feeling calm and prepared. Afif always took his time to explain the maths until she understood. He was always calm, helpful and down to earth. I have no hesitation in recommending Afif, he was a fantastic tutor for my daughter. We also had great communication from Achiever Tutoring with weekly reports and any issues were quickly dealt with and ironed out. We appreciate all your hard work. Thank you to Jonny, Afif and the whole team. Now fingers crossed for results day. :-)

Jonny was recommended to us by one of our previous tutors who had to leave due to other commitments. He had been teaching both my sons ( Year 8 and Year 10) for the past 1 year. It was an absolute delight to have known him. A huge thank you to Jonny for the outstanding work that he is doing for both of my sons. He has been a great inspiration, exceptionally encouraging where my sons has developed an interest in English. Jonny is a very passionate teacher and it has been a privilege to have him to teach my sons. Jonny is a very skilful teacher with the ability to assess my sons' level and putting in place a plan of action to help him improve in all areas. He has been kind, caring, supportive and an inspiring role model. I have witnessed a great improvement of my sons grasping English overall. Nicky has been teaching French to my Year 10 son. She has been preparing him for GCSE. Considering him not liking French as a subject, he is making good steady progress. Achiever Tutoring is highly recommended.

Jonny’s story

When tutoring for large companies, Jonny realised that the money being made wasn’t being invested back into the students.

It was the day where Jonny saw himself being advertised on the website for an hourly rate three times the amount he was being paid when he realised: what he was doing didn't seem right. Where was the money going?

Staff morale was poor, client reviews were mixed, and tutors were underpaid at the expense of CEO's unjustifiable bonuses. Jonny realised that he could be offering a better service and for a half of the price.

Jonny tutors and runs Achiever alongside studying at the University of Liverpool. Jonny spends time in Liverpool and in his hometown Deal in Kent delivering sessions online and in person across both locations.
