Jonny’s story

When tutoring for large companies, Jonny realised that the money being made wasn’t being invested back into the students.

It was the day where Jonny saw himself being advertised on the website for an hourly rate three times the amount he was being paid when he realised: what he was doing didn't seem right. Where was the money going?

Staff morale was poor, client reviews were mixed, and tutors were underpaid at the expense of CEO's unjustifiable bonuses. Jonny realised that he could be offering a better service and for a half of the price.

Jonny tutors and runs Achiever alongside studying at the University of Liverpool. Jonny spends time in Liverpool and in his hometown Deal in Kent delivering sessions online and in person across both locations.

Achievers make mistakes and that's how we learn. We celebrate mistakes and use them to teach.

We also trust our tutors' professional initiatives. We balance sessions in a way that makes time for discussion, questions, fostering a love for the subject and, of course, pushing the student to succeed. It's all about that correct balance.

We realise that every student is different and adapt sessions accordingly. The joy of one-to-one learning means that each session can be tailored to the student. Some students thrive under pressure and some don't. Some will need that nudge in the right direction and others will need reassurance. We adapt and that's what creates achievers.

We help students achieve across the curriculum. Our versatile team of subject specific tutors offer everything from languages to humanities, Spanish to French and early years to sixth form. We create well rounded achievers and make it possible through discounts on multiple subjects.

We strive to offer value for money. One-to-one learning can be expensive which is why we keep costs as low as possible, offer discounts and provide personally written, free of charge session reports keeping you in the loop of your young person's progress. We're a fraction of the price of larger agencies - we put people before profit. It's that simple.

Jonny and his team were invaluable during my child's GCSE revision and exams. After being hit by the pandemic, my daughter felt behind in her lessons and felt overwhelmed at the prospect of catching up for her forthcoming GCSEs. Special mention to Tabby and Belle who gave her back her confidence and love of learning. My daughter became more organised and motivated to work. I'd like to take this opportunity to personally thank Jonny and his team. Especially Ellie who tutored my daughter in maths and science in the lead up to GCSE's. My daughter had missed a lot of school due to personal reasons, and as such fell behind. Initially hesitant to start tutoring, she gave it a go. Well, what can I say, it was the best thing I could have done for her!!! She hit it off with Ellie who made her feel comfortable and at ease. She gave my daughter the confidence to go into those exams with her head held high and believing in herself. My daughter learnt more in those few months than ever before!! I highly recommend.

My daughter was lucky enough to be paired with Afif from Achiever Tutoring for Maths GCSE preparation. Afif had a great rapport with her from the first session. He was understanding of her needs and helped her to pick apart the most difficult questions to gain higher marks. She grew in confidence as a result of his teaching and although maths is her most tricky subject, she went into exams feeling calm and prepared. Afif always took his time to explain the maths until she understood. He was always calm, helpful and down to earth. I have no hesitation in recommending Afif, he was a fantastic tutor for my daughter. We also had great communication from Achiever Tutoring with weekly reports and any issues were quickly dealt with and ironed out. We appreciate all your hard work. Jonny was recommended to us by one of our previous tutors who had to leave due to other commitments. He had been teaching both my sons ( Year 8 and Year 10) for the past 1 year. At Achiever Tutoring, safeguarding is our utmost priority. We are committed to creating a safe and supportive learning environment for both our students and tutors. All our tutors are rigorously and regularly trained in safeguarding and hold enhanced DBS checks. 

Our Designated Safeguarding Lead, Belle Maggs, oversees all safeguarding matters to ensure the highest standards of care and compliance. Unlike large tutoring corporations, we take pride in personally knowing each of our students and tutors by name; fostering trust, accountability, and a genuine sense of community.
